Arsene Wenger: 'Joel Campbell to stay at Arsenal'

Arsene Wenger refutes speculation linking out-of-favour Joel Campbell with a January move away.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has played down reports that out-of-favour striker Joel Campbell could leave the club on loan next month.

Speculation is rife that the Costa Rica international is keen on a January exit after struggling for first-team chances, with the 22-year-old starting just two games all season.

Southampton have reportedly emerged as potential suitors but, speaking to the club's official website, Wenger said simply: "Campbell will stay with us."

Campbell, who joined the Gunners in 2011, has spent the last three seasons on loan with Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos, before an impressive World Cup saw Wenger retain him for this season.

His contract expires in 2016.
