Arsene Wenger "open to do more" in transfer window

Arsene Wenger admits that he is pleased to have done his transfer business early this summer and hints that there could be more additions at Arsenal before the window closes.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is glad to have done his business early this summer, but hinted that there could be more arrivals to come at Arsenal.

The Gunners have already signed Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina with two weeks to go until the start of the season.

This is a change of tact from Wenger, who often waits until the final stages of the transfer window to make improvements to his squad, and the Frenchman has suggested that he was forced into the market by the actions of Arsenal's rivals.

"I'm very happy because I did what I wanted, and I am still open to do more," he told reporters.

"Let's not forget that we are at August 1 today, and the transfer window closes on the 31st. For years, it's a long time I didn't sit with you here on the first of August having done quite a lot.

"We are a bit ahead of what we usually do, because the availability on the market was bigger and earlier than before."

The £66m spent by the Emirates Stadium outfit represents their biggest ever summer outlay, and Colombia winger Juan Quintero has been tipped to join their quartet of recruits in the near future.
