Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alex Song is back training with the club, but has ruled out offering the midfielder a short-term contract.
Song recently quit Russian club Rubin Kazan, where he had spent the last year-and-a-half, after they failed to pay their players for four months.
The 30-year-old has been training with former club Arsenal over the past few days, as he attempts to maintain his fitness before joining a new side as a free agent before the end of the season.
That side will not be the Gunners, however, as Wenger told reporters at his weekly press conference on Friday morning that the Cameroonian is not in contention for a contract offer.
"Alex is looking for a new club," he said. "I allowed him to come in to work on his fitness. Nothing more than that."
Song was with Arsenal for six years until 2012, when he left to join Catalan giants Barcelona.
