Brad Guzan has signed a new three-year contract with Aston Villa.
The American goalkeeper appeared to be heading for the Villa Park exit door when he failed to agree a new deal at the end of the last campaign, thus making him a free agent.
However, following discussions with new manager Paul Lambert, the 27-year-old has opted to commit his future to the Villains.
"I've watch Brad and some of his games last season when he was in the team last season and he was excellent," said Lambert.
"I know he has always had that stigma of being the number two behind some really good goalkeepers here but when you come back at the start of the season nobody knows what is going to happen and it depends on whoever does well.
"Brad played very well the times he was in and maybe he was unlucky to find himself back out. The club needs two or three good goalkeepers."
Guzan joined Villa in 2008 from Chivas USA.
