Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn credits his large bottom for his success as a footballer.

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has credited his ample posterior for making him good enough to be a Premier League footballer.

The 27-year-old, who has been with the Villans for the last four years, has previously spoken of his pride at his large backside and he has now revealed that he has even had talks with boss Steven Gerrard about his prize asset.

Discussing his new fitness regime, he told reporters this week: "I had an open, honest chat with Steven Gerrard.

"He wanted me to give myself the best opportunity to get the best out of what I have.

"So I've been a lot more professional over the last 12 months, trying to become the best athlete I can be. I get a bit hungry at times! But hopefully in the long run it can benefit me as a player.

"I said to the gaffer that if I didn't have this backside I'd be playing in the Lowland League. He had a laugh at that.

"But we've got an understanding that as long as I give it my best shot – and keep the size of my backside – we'll be fine."

McGinn has featured 30 times for Villa in the league this season, contributing three goals and two assists.
