Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner: 'We've attracted buyers from across the globe'

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner reveals that he has been in contact with interested buyers from across the globe, but is yet to push a sale through.

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner has revealed that the Premier League club has attracted buyers from across the globe, but the American is yet to sell.

Lerner, who has been criticised by fans for not investing in the team, announced almost a year ago that he is inviting potential buyers to take over the Midlands outfit.

While a sale is yet to get over the line, the 53-year-old has confirmed that he will step down as chairman in the summer if the club don't find a buyer.

"I don't disagree with the [fans'] criticism," Lerner told The Times. "What I should have done several years back was bring in a chairman.

"Yes, the club remains for sale, but as we've seen, 'club for sale' does not necessarily mean it will change hands so fast. I have had interest from nearly every corner of the globe.

"Germans, Italians, Americans and Chinese among others have expressed interest in and fondness for the Villa. They key of course is to try to put the club in custodial hands that can take the club forward. Resources and competence and a willingness to immerse themselves in the local fabric."

Villa manager Tim Sherwood is preparing the team for Saturday's FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley.
