Norwich City are apparently lining up Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay as a potential replacement for Paul Lambert.
Lambert is the hot favourite for the vacant manager's job at Aston Villa and is holding talks with the West Midlands club this afternoon.
It was reported this morning that the Scot had fallen out with the Canaries hierarchy over their stringent transfer budget for next season.
Should he leave to take up the post at Villa Park, Norwich want to appoint former player Mackay as his successor at Carrow Road.
Mackay, who made over 200 appearances for Norwich, is under contract with the Bluebirds until 2016 after recently signing an extension.
