Philippe Senderos hails Aston Villa character in Liverpool win

Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos hails the character shown by his side in registering a shock victory over Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

Philippe Senderos has praised the "brilliant character" shown by his Aston Villa teammates in this evening's 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

Gabriel Agbonlahor's ninth-minute goal ensured that the Villans maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, which has seen them climb up to second in the table.

"Not many teams will come here and get a win and we showed brilliant character to come here and do so," BBC Sport quotes Senderos as saying.

When asked about his battle against Mario Balotelli, the Switzerland international said: "There are things that happen on the pitch but I don't think there is any harm in it, everyone is running towards each other and kicking and I think it is all give and take."

Villa are back in action next weekend when they host Arsenal at Villa Park, while Liverpool turn their attention to the Champions League, with Ludogorets Razgrad the visitors to Anfield in midweek.
