Aston Villa 'looking for permanent Paul Lambert replacement'

Aston Villa are reportedly looking for a long-term solution to their managerial vacancy and are not considering finding an interim replacement for Paul Lambert.

Aston Villa are believed to have ruled out appointing an interim manager until the end of the season following the sacking of Paul Lambert.

First-team coach Scott Marshall will take charge of Sunday's FA Cup tie against Leicester City after Lambert was axed with the club in the Premier League relegation zone.

Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers have each stuck with caretaker bosses for the remainder of the campaign, but Sky Sports News claims that Villa are seeking a long-term solution.

Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood and USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann are apparently two of the names in the frame to succeed Lambert on a permanent basis, but an appointment is not imminent.

Ex-Villa defender Gareth Southgate and Derby County's Steve McClaren have distanced themselves from the position.
