Stan Collymore still expects Fabian Delph exit

Fabian Delph signing a new contract will only serve to land Aston Villa a bigger transfer fee for his services, according to former Villa striker Stan Collymore.

Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore believes that Fabian Delph is unlikely to remain at the club much longer, despite the news that he has extended his contract at Villa Park.

The England midfielder's previous deal had been due to expire in the summer, which had thought to have alerted both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

The 25-year-old seemingly put an end to that speculation earlier today when it was announced that he had agreed to new terms until 2019.

However, Collymore feels that Delph's decision to put pen to paper will only serve to land Villa a greater transfer fee.

"In reality it means we can get money for Fabian in the summer. Proper money. Contract probabilities. A, possible release clause if AVFC relegated. B, an agreed trigger figure should another club meet it. Let's say £30m," he wrote on Twitter.

"Not saying anyone will pay £30m, club will want it to be as high as possible to put clubs off."

Delph joined Villa from Championship side Leeds United back in 2009.
