Carlos Cuellar has revealed that he wants to remain in England following his release from Aston Villa.
The 30-year-old was not offered a new deal by Villa, and it had been suggested that he would head to Spain.
However, Sunderland have reportedly registered an interest, with the Spaniard admitting that he wants to stay in the Premier League.
"I would like to stay in England. There are always a lot of rumours about other teams and other countries. I love the football, I love the people and I love the country," he told Sky Sports News.
"My best option is to stay in this country. If I got a good project at a club then that would be the important thing for me."
Cuellar joined Villa from Rangers in 2008.
