Half-Time Report: Elche lead at Athletic Bilbao

Elche lead Athletic Bilbao 1-0 after and end-to-end half at San Mames.

Elche are 1-0 up against Athletic Bilbao at half time in this evening's La Liga encounter.

Both sides started the match in attacking fashion and it was Elche who took an early lead when David Lomban rose highest and directed a powerful header into the corner.

They almost doubled their lead moments later as Aaron found space on the edge of the box and produced a curling effort which bounced back off the crossbar.

Bilbao had chances of their own with Markel Susaeta and Ander Herrera combining well. Their best chance fell to Aymeric Laporte though, who headed over from a pinpoint cross.

The match continued in end-to-end fashion before a spectacular effort from Gaizka Toquero almost brought the hosts level just before the break, as he met Susaeta's cross with an acrobatic volley, but it went straight at the goalkeeper.

Moments later Elche could have gone two up when Aaron collected Carles Gil's through-ball and fired towards the bottom corner, only to see Iago Herrerin tip the ball wide.
