Borja Fernandez's first-half strike secures maximum points for Getafe in their La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao.

An early goal from Borja Fernandez was enough to secure all three points for Getafe in their La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao.

The hosts got off to the perfect start when Fernandez thumped Adrian's seventh-minute corner into the back of the net to put them 1-0 in front.

Bilbao had a golden opportunity to draw level in the 26th minute after Ander Iturraspe found Aritz Aduriz in the box unmarked, but the striker squandered the chance.

Getafe were the better side in the second period and came within inches of doubling their lead in the 67th minute when Adrian headed Fernandez's lofted pass against the crossbar.

That proved to be the final clear-cut chance of the evening as the hosts held on to take maximum points.
