A report claims that Everton officials are split as to whether Sam Allardyce is the right man for the vacant managerial position, with Diego Simeone still a target.

Everton chiefs are reportedly undecided whether to offer Sam Allardyce the vacant manager's job or instead go all out to lure Diego Simeone from Atletico Madrid.

Former England and Crystal Palace boss Allardyce quickly emerged as the frontrunner to take over from Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park, six months after hinting that he was about to quit football for good.

The 63-year-old has yet to meet with Everton officials, however, while Simeone has since been touted as a surprise candidate to succeed Koeman.

According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees' board met on Wednesday to determine which direction they intend to go, with owner Farhad Moshiri holding out for Simeone.

Sean Dyche and Marco Silva, currently employed by Burnley and Watford respectively, are also understood to be on Everton's managerial shortlist, along with caretaker boss David Unsworth.
