Juanfran hoping for "historic year"

Juanfran hopes that Atletico Madrid can make 2014 "a historic year".

Juanfran has insisted that Atletico Madrid are intent on making 2014 "a historic year".

The Spanish outfit are currently second in La Liga with 10 games remaining, while they are into the last eight of the Champions League.

"We don't want to miss the opportunity to achieve something historic. This team has the desire and the mentality to fight for everything, to keep being one of the best teams," he told reporters.

"It's a great opportunity for every one of us and we want to take it, because there's so few of us in this team, that have been in such a good position to do something like this, so close to the end of the season.

"We have to be enthusiastic, together with our fans, trying to achieve important things, so that it's a historic year for Atletico Madrid."

Atletico could be top of the table at the end of the weekend if Real Madrid lose at home to Barcelona.
