Diego Simeone backs Fernando Torres to hit goal trail

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone insists that he is "happy" with Fernando Torres's work this season, despite the fact that the striker has not scored since September.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has backed Fernando Torres to re-discover his scoring touch for the Spanish giants.

Torres, who is currently on loan at Atletico from AC Milan, is one goal away from his 100th in the colours of the capital giants.

The Spaniard has not scored since September, but Simeone remains confident that the Atletico legend will soon hit the goal trail.

"I'm happy with [Torres's] work. He trains well and gets involved with both the team and the club. [The goal] will come. The goal is a consequence, and it's important that he's finding the right positions and getting chances," Simeone told reporters.

Torres initially represented Atletico between 1995 and 2007, spending six years in the first team before joining Liverpool.
