Diego Simeone 'interested in taking on Premier League job'

A report claims that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone would be tempted to join a Premier League club next summer should the right job come along.

Diego Simeone has his heart set on joining a Premier League club and is now awaiting the right time to leave Atletico Madrid, according to a report.

The 46-year-old is under contract at the Vicente Calderon until the end of next season, having recently made the decision to cut the length of his deal by two years.

Simeone, who is the longest-serving manager in La Liga thanks to five years in charge of Atleti, claimed at the time that 'nothing had changed' in terms of his desire to continue winning trophies in the Spanish capital.

However, The Mirror claims that the Argentine is tempted by a move to the English top flight, with Arsenal understood to be his preferred destination should Arsene Wenger step aside when his current terms expire next summer.

It is suggested that Simeone turned down the chance to join Chelsea prior to Antonio Conte being put in charge, but the Blues are said to still be hopeful of one day bringing the Atletico boss to Stamford Bridge ahead of their London rivals.

Simeone has guided the Rojiblancos to success in the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup and La Liga, while also reaching two Champions League finals.
