Atletico Madrid restore their four-point lead over Real Madrid in La Liga with a 1-0 win against Espanyol at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Atletico Madrid have restored their four-point lead over Real Madrid in La Liga with a narrow 1-0 win against Espanyol at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

The only goal of the game came in the 38th minute when Radamel Falcao fired in from the penalty spot following Hector Moreno's foul on Diego Costa.

However, Atletico finished the game with 10 men after Gabi picked up his second yellow card of the evening before the break.

While Atletico sit in second place in La Liga, the defeat has seen Espanyol slip down to 13th place in the table.
