Atletico Madrid confirm Jackson Martinez's China exit

Jackson Martinez signs a four-year contract with Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande, Atletico Madrid confirm in a statement.

Atletico Madrid have announced that Jackson Martinez has been sold to Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

Speculation broke late last night that the two clubs had agreed a £31m fee for the 29-year-old, who only joined Atletico from Porto last summer.

The La Liga outfit have now confirmed those reports, having revealed that the Colombian has signed a four-year contract with Evergrande.

In a statement on Atletico's official website: "I want to thank my teammates, the coaching staff and the people working at the club for the trust they had in me and the effort they made so I could come here.

"It has been an honour for me to be a part of this club, but I think the time has come to start another stage in my career. We have talked a lot in the last days and we have agreed that this is the best for all of us."

Martinez made 15 league appearances for Diego Simeone's men, from which he scored two goals.
