Nuremberg edge out Augsburg

Augsburg's relegation troubles increase with a 2-1 defeat at home to Nuremberg in the Bundesliga.

Augsburg's relegation struggles have increased with a 2-1 defeat at home to Nuremberg in the Bundesliga.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play in the 19th minute when Hiroshi Kiyotake fired into the top corner following a counter-attack.

However, the scores were level at the break as Tobias Werner's header was fumbled into the net by goalkeeper Raphael Schafer on 35 minutes.

Alexander Esswein sealed the win for Nuremberg 10 minutes into the second half with his low free kick.

The defeat has seen Augsburg stay five points above the automatic relegation places, while Nuremberg move up to 11th position.
