Claudio Marchisio "proud" of Juventus

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio believes that his side can hold their heads up high despite falling to defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final.

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has insisted that he is "proud" of his side despite their defeat in the final of the Champions League this evening.

The Old Lady were beaten 3-1 by Barcelona in Berlin, with Alvaro Morata cancelling out an early Ivan Rakitic opener before goals from Luis Suarez and Neymar clinched the trophy for the Spaniards.

Despite the defeat, it has been a successful debut campaign at the helm for manager Massimiliano Allegri, and Marchisio believes that Juve should be happy with their achievements this season.

"We did find it a bit hard in the first half, but then it's not easy to press high up the pitch for the whole 90 minutes. All the teams who play against Barcelona had to sit back and wait for them at times," he told reporters.

"We got the measure of them after that and once we scored the equaliser we were in control of the game. If we'd just managed to take the lead, the match could have ended very differently.

"The new boss came in and the first thing he said was that we could be among the best in Europe. We have no regrets; we can be proud of what we've achieved. We leave the pitch with our heads held high tonight as well."

Juventus won both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia crown this season.
