PSG's Kylian Mbappe joins elite group with hat-trick against Barcelona

Kylian Mbappe becomes the third player in Champions League history to score a hat-trick against Barcelona with his treble against the Catalan giants on Tuesday night.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has joined an elite crowd of players after scoring a hat-trick for the French champions in Tuesday's 4-1 rout of Barcelona in the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino's PSG made the journey to Camp Nou without the injured Neymar and Angel Di Maria, but the South American duo were not needed as Mbappe stole the show in Catalonia.

Les Parisiens initially fell behind to a Lionel Messi penalty, but Mbappe restored parity before half time and went on to score two more on the night, while Moise Kean also got in on the act.

By chalking up a trio of goals against Ronald Koeman's side on Tuesday night, the 22-year-old has become just the third player in Champions League history to register a hat-trick against the Catalan giants.

The two previous players to achieve such a historic feat were Faustino Asprilla and Andriy Shevchenko, who bagged trebles for Newcastle United and Dynamo Kiev respectively in 1997.

Mbappe now boasts 21 goals across all competitions in the 2020-21 campaign, and PSG now have one foot firmly in the quarter-finals ahead of the second leg at the Parc des Princes next month.
