Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is hopeful that Andres Iniesta will miss "weeks" of the season rather than months.
The experienced midfielder was forced off in the first half of Barcelona's 3-2 win over Valencia on Saturday afternoon after twisting his knee in a challenge with Los Che's Enzo Perez.
A statement from the Spanish champions revealed that the 33-year-old had "injured the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee", although it is currently unclear how much of the season the Spaniard will miss.
"Iniesta? It was a piece of very clear play, in which there wasn't a yellow card. I can't tell if it's a serious injury, he'll certainly be out for weeks, but tomorrow we'll learn the extent of the injury," Enrique told reporters.
Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba are also both currently on the sidelines for Barcelona after picking up ankle and hamstring injuries respectively against Manchester City last week.
