Luis Suarez: Lionel Messi better than 'declining' Cristiano Ronaldo

Luis Suarez says that Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi is better than Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who he claims is a declining force.

Luis Suarez has suggested that Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi is the world's finest player after claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo is a declining force.

The Portuguese edged out his Argentine counterpart to win a second successive Ballon d'Or in January, but Suarez says that Messi's natural flair gives him the edge over his Real Madrid rival.

"Messi is natural, it is his character. He is the best in the world but he was born with his qualities," the Uruguayan told La Buteur.

"Ronaldo has progressed and worked a lot to perform how he does. He's not at the same level he was when he started. I think Leo is the best."

Messi has netted 55 times this season, three more than the 30-year-old.
