Ibrahim Afellay says that he hopes to play regular football after moving to Schalke.

Ibrahim Afellay has stated that he is looking forward to playing regular football after moving to Schalke.

The Dutch winger signed for the German side on a season-long loan from Barcelona after finding himself on the fringes of life at the Nou Camp following an injury-hit campaign.

The former PSV Eindhoven man admits that he is happy at the prospect of receiving more game time.

"When you recover from an injury you must play again as soon as possible, and that's what I'll do now at Schalke," said Afellay.

"There was no point staying stagnant [at Barcelona]. I have not played much at Barcelona and this season I was told that I was going to have wait to play. It was agreed with the coach (Tito Vilanova) that a transfer would be the best option.

"I have good feelings [about the loan move]."

Afellay signed for Barcelona in December 2010 from PSV.
