Barcelona considered making a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar in the summer.
The Brazilian spent four years at the Camp Nou between 2013 and 2017, scoring 105 goals in 186 appearances for Barca, and since leaving for Paris, he has been consistently linked with a move back to Spain.
Speaking to RAC1, Barca president Joan Laporta admitted the club did look into the possibility of re-signing Neymar this summer: "As the numbers were explained to us, we thought there was room to do it. We didn't have our due diligence done.
"They told us that he wanted to come, and that he couldn't continue there, having convinced the club [to let him leave]."
However, Laporta also stated that it was ultimately a positive that the move did not work out due to Barca's difficult financial position that forced them to lose Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.
Neymar has scored 88 goals in 123 appearances for PSG, winning three league titles in France.
