Ivan Rakitic handed number four shirt at Barcelona

New Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic will wear the number four shirt for the Catalan outfit next season.

Ivan Rakitic will wear the number four shirt for Barcelona next season.

The Croatian, who agreed a move to the Camp Nou from Sevilla last month, officially signed a long-term deal with the Catalan outfit on Monday.

It has been revealed that the 27-year-old will take on the four shirt for his new club, which had been vacant following the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Ivan Rakitic passed his medical at the Ciutat Esportiva this morning ahead of signing the new five-year deal with FC Barcelona at the club offices at the Camp Nou.

"The Croat weighed in at 73 kilos and carried out a series of medical tests, including heart and strength tests, at the medical centre at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper for about an hour."

Rakitic represented his country at the World Cup this summer.
