Former Ajax attacker Sjaak Swart says that Barcelona forward Luis Suarez will return to the Dutch giants before retiring.

Former Ajax attacker Sjaak Swart has claimed that Luis Suarez will return to the Dutch giants before hanging up his boots as a professional footballer.

Suarez scored 111 goals in 158 matches for Ajax between 2007 and 2011 ahead of a switch to Liverpool.

The 32-year-old will see his current deal with Barcelona expire in little under two years, and Swart has insisted that the Uruguay international will return to Amsterdam in the final stages of his career.

"I think he really wants to go back to Ajax," Swart told told NH Sportcafe. "Already? Well, maybe. He really will come back to Ajax, but I don't know when. There are certain players who would like to return to Ajax. Think of Frank Rijkaard and Jari Litmanen."

Suarez netted 82 times in 133 appearances for Liverpool before moving to Barca, where he has managed 177 goals in 248 matches during a highly successful spell.

Ajax, meanwhile, enjoyed an impressive 2018-19 campaign, landing a league and cup double in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
