Martin Allen: 'Barnet must regroup ahead of Bristol Rovers meeting'

Martin Allen insists that narrowly missing out on automatic promotion to Bristol Rovers last season will have no impact on this weekend's meeting between the two sides.

Barnet boss Martin Allen has said that he is hopeful his players can use their first win of the campaign to help push them on.

The Bees got off the mark in League Two thanks to a 2-0 win over Northampton Town in midweek.

Allen's charges now prepare to take on Bristol Rovers this weekend, but the Englishman does not expect events from last season to play any part, having seen his side miss out on automatic promotion by a single point.

"Obviously everybody is pleased to get three points on the board," he told the club's official website. "Now we'll regroup on Friday morning and prepare ahead of Saturday's match. It's always a good atmosphere at the Memorial Stadium every time we visit there; the place is always buzzing and they're a very passionate crowd.

"The Bristol Rovers supporters are humble, hard-working people. They sing with energy and enthusiasm. This game has nothing to do with what happened last season in the league.

"It hasn't even been mentioned in our dressing room. What happened last year happened - the fact that we both got promoted is great. It's a new day, it's a new game and it's a new competition."

Barnet head into the game occupying 15th place in the league table, while Rovers are up in eighth.
