Barnsley director Don Rowing has admitted that the club are "very disappointed" with Terry Butcher's decision not to accept the offer of becoming their new manager.
The 54-year-old turned down the chance to take charge of the Championship club and will continue at Inverness Caledonian Thistle instead.
"We're obviously very disappointed," BBC Sport quotes Rowing as saying. "We put a lot of effort in trying to recruit Terry.
"I was sure we convinced him that Barnsley was the right club for him. It's not finances that have determined his decision.
"I think it's purely the fact that he's taken stock of where he is with Inverness."
Sean O'Driscoll also rejected the offer to become Barnsley's new manager this week.
