Barnsley and Brighton & Hove Albion played out a largely uneventful 0-0 draw in this afternoon's Championship fixture at Oakwell.
The match began in scrappy fashion with few chances at either end, but Tykes midfielder Dale Jennings fired a warning shot from long range in the 16th minute that tested Tomasz Kuszczak.
Barnsley gave Brighton another scare in the 20th minute, Stephen Dawson finding space to shoot following a corner kick, but failing to find the target.
Brighton created very little in the final third, their best chance of the first half coming in the 39th minute when Dale Stephens exchanged passes with Jesse Lingard and fired over the bar.
The second half was a more lively affair, with chances coming at both ends shortly after the restart.
Liam Lawrence came within inches of giving the hosts the lead in the 57th minute when his header beat Kuszczak's outstretched arm but came crashing back off the crossbar.
Both sides continued to cancel each other out for the remainder, but the game ended on a sour note for the hosts as Kelvin Etuh was dismissed for a second bookable offence late on.
