Bayer Leverkusen's Gonzalo Castro out for season

Gonzalo Castro won't play for Bayer Leverkusen again this season after tearing the medial meniscus in his left knee.

Bayer Leverkusen have announced that they will be without German midfielder Gonzalo Castro for the rest of the season after he picked up a knee injury in training.

The 27-year-old won't be able to play any part in helping Bayer secure Champions League football for next season.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Bayer go into the final sprint of the season without their midfield ace Gonzalo Castro.

"Bayer's all-rounder retired during training on Wednesday morning with a tear of the medial meniscus in his left knee."

With five games of the season remaining, Leverkusen sit third in the standings, seven points behind second-placed Wolfsburg.
