Javier Hernandez pays tribute to Bayer Leverkusen

Javier Hernandez issues thanks to his Bayer Leverkusen teammates after his hat-trick in the 5-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Javier Hernandez has paid tribute to his Bayer Leverkusen teammates after he scored a hat-trick in the 5-0 thrashing of Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Mexican played a key role in opening up a tight game with a 13-minute treble in the second half, but he was keen to underline the importance of the team performance as Leverkusen recovered from their Champions League exit in style.

"It feels good to score a hat-trick. This ball will go in my house but all my teammates are going to sign it because it was a team effort, not just mine," Hernandez told the Bundesliga website.

"Some people think scoring goals is a striker's only job but I'm not obsessed with scoring; that's a consequence of the team's work. I'm very happy.

"What we can take from this is the performance from the whole team, including the substitutes. We didn't concede any goals and we had a bit of luck too, compared to last Wednesday [against Barcelona]. In that game we scored one, now we scored five. That's football. We can't predict anything."

Hernandez has scored 17 goals in all competitions since arriving from Manchester United in the summer.
