Bayer Leverkusen edge out Hertha Berlin in capital

Bayer Leverkusen beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 in the German capital.

Bayer Leverkusen returned to winning ways on Saturday as a solitary Stefan Kiessling goal handed them all three points away to Hertha Berlin.

The opening of the game had very few chances, largely down to the number of fouls both sides were giving away.

The first real opening of the game fell to Stefan Kiessling as he was found by Jens Hegeler and he made no mistake with a low finish to put Bayer into the lead.

That goal brought Hertha to life and they had two chances in quick succession to equalise. First Anis Ben-Hatira headed wide before Adrian Ramos could only pick out Bernd Leno with his.

After the break it was a nervy affair, but the hosts started to get on top with Hany Mukhtar putting a strike from range well over the bar.

As the game wore on Ramos could have done better with a close-range header, but his effort went wide and Hertha were unable to grab themselves a point.
