Mauricio Pellegrini criticises his Valencia team for showing Bayern Munich too much respect in their Champions League clash.

Mauricio Pellegrino has admitted that his Valencia side feared Bayern Munich before their defeat to the Bavarian club in the Champions League.

Goals from Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos condemned Valencia to a loss in the Group F opener and Pellegrino believes that his players gave too much respect to their opponents.

"It has not been a good game. We had too much fear at the beginning," the 40-year-old told reporters. "Perhaps we showed them too much respect.

"That is one of the reasons for our defeat, but overall we were solid.

"We gave the ball away a lot, especially in the first half. We had no support when we brought the ball out, and we were not in the right positions."

Bate Borisov currently lead the group after a 3-1 win over Lille.
