CSKA Moscow miss out after Bayern Munich defeat

Bayern Munich beat CSKA Moscow 3-0 to end the Russian side's Champions League campaign.

CSKA Moscow are out of the Champions League after they were comfortably beaten by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The visitors almost had an early lead when a Roman Eremenko cross reached the head of Seydou Doumbia and the Ivorian header was inches away from beating Manuel Neuer.

However, Bayern showed plenty of early attacking intent despite having already won Group E, with Gianluca Gaudino going close and Jerome Boateng firing narrowly wide for the Bavarians.

Pep Guardiola's side were given the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot on 18 minutes when Franck Ribery was bundled over in the box. Thomas Muller duly stepped up to beat Igor Akinfeev from 12 yards.

Despite trailing, CSKA tried to push for an immediate equaliser and were unlucky not to be on terms when Doumbia was left with just Neuer to beat, but saw his effort stopped by the feet of the German international.

After the break, the visitors began to struggle as Bayern enjoyed more opportunities to score and Arjen Robben was twice denied by Akinfeev.

Robert Lewandowski thought he had added to the Bavarian side's lead as he rounded the Russian keeper and struck his shot against the post, but the ball rolled across the goal line before being cleared by the CSKA defence.

Bayern finally made sure of victory when right wing-back Sebastian Rode popped up at the far post to head home with six minutes remaining. They added a third in stoppage time as Mario Gotze rifled the ball through the helpless Akinfeev.

CSKA also missed out on a Europa League spot after Manchester City beat Roma 2-0 to progress.
