Xherdan Shaqiri eager to avoid criticism at World Cup

Xherdan Shaqiri believes that he has been unfairly singled out for criticism during Switzerland's World Cup campaign.

Xherdan Shaqiri has urged members of the Swiss media to stop criticising his performances at the World Cup.

Ahead of their crucial Group E fixture with Honduras on Wednesday night, Shaqiri believes that the focus should not always be on him as Ottmar Hitzfeld's squad look to secure a spot in the last 16 of the tournament.

"I am satisfied with my performance," the Bayern Munich attacking midfielder told reporters. "[But] one must not expect me to decide the games alone. The team needs me, I need the team.

"I do not care what is written about me. It is not all dependent on me. It annoys me. I cannot dribble from the back to the front. We are Switzerland, not Spain, not Brazil. Switzerland needs to be successful as a team."

Switzerland must better Ecuador's result against France to qualify from Group E.
