Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio has admitted that his side's poor start cost them any chance of earning a result against Bayer Leverkusen.
The Portuguese champions were on the back foot for much of the first half as the Bundesliga side opened up a comfortable half-time lead en route to a 3-1 win.
Although Salvio pulled a goal back for Benfica, the Argentine international is adamant that the Eagles' early showing was crucial in the final result.
He is quoted by UEFA.com as saying: "We didn't start well, against a team that is strong in the midfield. Today the opponent was better and we have to accept it.
"There are four games left and Benfica always play to win. If there is a chance, we'll fight until the end for the qualification."
Benfica are rooted to the bottom of Group C as the only side without a point so far.
