Birmingham City ease into fourth round of FA Cup

Birmingham City cruise into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

Birmingham City have eased to a 3-0 victory over Bristol Rovers to progress into the fourth round of the FA Cup, with Chris Burke grabbing a brace for the hosts.

Eliot Richards was first to threaten for Rovers as he found himself with space inside the box, but his right-footed shot was saved by Colin Doyle.

City almost went ahead through Nikola Zigic, though he was wasteful having sent his header wide from the six-yard box as the goal stood gaping.

Doyle was called into action at the midway point when Michael Smith let fly from outside of the box, leaving the keeper to make a save to deny Rovers the lead.

City took the lead in the 35th minute when Paul Robinson converted a header from the centre of the box, having been picked out by Shane Ferguson's cross.

Lee Novak had a good chance to increase Birmingham's lead after the break, but his effort was too high to test the keeper, before Zigic had his head in his hands after having a close-range shot stopped by Steve Mildenhall.

City cemented their victory five minutes from time when Zigic provided for Burke who converted with his right from just inside the box to make it 2-0.

Burke was then on hand to drill home again a few minutes later, this time from outside of the box, to leave the final score at 3-0.
