Clayton Donaldson's second-half strike was enough to give Birmingham City a crucial 1-0 win away at Rotherham United.
The Blues found the breakthrough just after an hour when Andrew Shinnie slipped Donaldson through on goal, and he scored at the second attempt after having his initial effort saved.
The visitors had the better of the game as Rotherham struggled to contain Shinnie, who hit the post after cutting inside several defenders early in the first half.
Rotherham failed to create many clear opportunities in a second home defeat on the bounce, while Birmingham were dangerous throughout and continued to threaten on the counter-attack.
They could have sealed the game when striker Lee Novak came off the bench and almost added a late second, but he blazed the ball over when well placed.
The win stretches Birmingham's unbeaten run to four games under new boss Gary Rowett.
