Blackburn Rovers edge past Doncaster Rovers

Blackburn Rovers edge to a 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in the Championship.

Blackburn Rovers have held onto a 1-0 victory against Doncaster Rovers in the Championship, thanks to a first-half header from Rudy Gestede.

Tom Cairney looked to force the issue early on for Doncaster as he let fly with two speculative efforts from outside the box, however, they came nowhere near the keeper's goal having flown high and wide on each occasion.

Ben Marshall was the first to threaten for Blackburn as he put in a pin-point delivery for Jordan Rhodes, who could only head the ball over from close range.

Marshall was in on the action again as he saw his long-range effort fly past the post, before Gestede flicked his header wide from the centre of the box.

However, Gestede made amends right on the stroke of half time when he converted a header from the right side of the six-yard box into the top right corner to give Blackburn a 1-0 lead going into half time.

Rhodes looked to double the hosts' advantage after the interval when he unleashed a right-footed shot from outside the box, which was saved in the centre of goal.

James Coppinger thought that he was about to equalise for the visitors late on, but his effort was blocked on its way to goal, before Chris Brown missed a sitter from a few yards out with only minutes to play.
