Managerless Blackburn Rovers produce a hard-working display to record a battling 3-1 win over Barnsley at Oakwell.

Blackburn Rovers produced a hard-working display to record a battling win over Barnsley at Oakwell this afternoon.

Rovers, who sacked Henning Berg on Boxing Day, travelled to Yorkshire under the temporary stewardship of reserve-team boss Gary Bowyer.

Bookmakers were slashing the odds on Bowyer becoming the club's next full-time boss on 29 minutes, when Joshua King put the Lancashire side in front.

The 20-year-old on-loan Manchester United forward collected Jordan Rhodes's neat pass before firing home from 16 yards.

Ruben Rochina then doubled Rovers' lead with a solo effort in the final minute of the first half.

Blackburn were the better team after the break, but Barnsley scored against the run of play on 76 minutes when Stephen Dawson found the net from long range.

However, Rovers restored their two-goal advantage in stoppage time when Rhodes found the bottom-right corner from 18 yards.
