Blackburn Rovers have revealed that midfielder Peter Whittingham has left the club by mutual consent.
Whittingham made the switch to Ewood Park last summer, and the veteran made 20 appearances as Blackburn gained promotion from League One.
However, the 33-year-old began to drop down the pecking order ahead of the club's return to the Championship, and he has had just one outing in the EFL Cup since the start of August.
That has resulted in Blackburn agreeing to part ways with Whittingham before the end of the transfer window, leaving the player free to join a new club.
Whittingham had just under a year remaining on his deal with the North-West outfit.
