David Ferguson named Blackpool club captain

Blackpool manager Neil McDonald names David Ferguson club captain ahead of the new season.

Blackpool manager Neil McDonald has named defender David Ferguson as club captain.

The 21-year-old, who joined the side from Sunderland in January, made ten appearances for the Tangerines last season.

Blackpool were relegated from the Championship in May, and Ferguson believes that the club can win promotion back to the second flight at the first time of asking.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Ferguson said: "My aim for now is obviously to get promotion, and why not win the league?

"We want good things for the club, to set aside all the bad things. We've just got to keep pushing and hopefully we'll come up good."

Blackpool begin the new season against Colchester United on August 8.
