Caretaker manager Steve Thompson has admitted that he would be "chuffed to bits" if he was given the Blackpool job on a permanent basis.
The 48-year-old, who is in temporary charge of the Tangerines following Michael Appleton's switch to Blackburn Rovers, masterminded a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux this afternoon.
"It is not going to do me any harm to get results," said Thompson. "I have always said that if it is me, fantastic. If it is not I will just hold the fort until somebody else comes in here.
"But whoever gets it has got a special bunch of players there. [Blackpool chairman] Karl [Oyston] knows the situation at the moment and it is in his court.
"I have always said that I am ready to be a number one. I would be chuffed to bits if I got a number one. But at the end of the day it is Karl's choice. He will do what is best for Blackpool."
Thompson featured for Bolton Wanderers, Leicester City and Burnley during his playing career.
