Holden to have surgery next week

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden will reportedly undergo surgery on his right knee next week.

The USA international, who has been plagued by long-term problems in recent seasons, tore an anterior cruciate ligament while playing for his country last week.

He will go under the knife in the US, resulting in a six-week recovery period before returning to the UK, according to BBC Sport.

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman is said to be devastated by the injury blow.
