Craig Davies goal hands Bolton Wanderers all three points

Bolton Wanderers earn a slender 1-0 victory over travelling Huddersfield Town in the Championship, thanks to a second-half finish from striker Craig Davies.

Craig Davies's second-half strike earned Bolton Wanderers their third Championship win of the month as they overcame travelling Huddersfield Town by a slender 1-0 scoreline at the Rebook Stadium this afternoon.

Bolton midfielder Darren Pratley sought to make use of some early possession for the hosts, but he saw his speculative effort fly just wide of the post after five minutes.

Town's first major chance of the opening half was to fall to Mark Hudson, as he connected with Sean Scannell's cross, only to head wide of the right post.

It was Neil Lennon's men, however, who were to be denied most agonisingly when Davies turned his effort from the centre of the box straight onto the Huddersfield bar, having been found by Pratley's teasing ball.

Town fans thought that an opener was in sight just before the half-time whistle as Nahki Wells produced a left-footed shot towards the bottom corner of goal, forcing Alex Smithies to make good ground to produce the save and leave things at 0-0 at the interval.

Huddersfield were perhaps the more dominant side after the break and they had two chances to take the lead, but both Wells and Conor Coady were denied by Andy Lonergan in the centre of goal.

Inaccuracy appeared to be the order of the day and this time as Matt Mills somehow wasted a perfect chance to head Bolton in front, guiding Max Clayton's cross wide of the left post.

With the game looking to be heading towards a draw, Bolton finally grabbed the all-important goal in the 67th minute thanks to Davies, who converted with authority from the centre of the box, having been picked out by Liam Feeney's cross.

Grant Holt, making his 500th appearance as a professional, might have earned Town an away point, but the striker could only head wide of the post after climbing highest to meet Theo Robinson's cross.
