Chris Eagles keeps Bolton Wanderers in playoff picture

Chris Eagles scores the only goal as Bolton Wanderers record a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town to stay in the Championship playoff race.

A second-half strike from Chris Eagles against Huddersfield Town has kept Bolton Wanderers in the hunt for a Championship playoff place, as they won the contest 1-0.

The home side were in control early on as David N'Gog dragged his shot wide from a tight angle.

Huddersfield were forced into a change after 15 minutes when Jack Hunt went down injured, with Callum Woods coming on to take his place in midfield.

Woods was quickly involved as his powerful strike from distance went just inches wide of the far post.

N'Gog then spurned a glorious opportunity when he scuffed wide from six yards following a fine approach-play from Eagles.

Sean Scannell and James Vaughan both looked lively on the break for the visitors but both sides were forced to settle for a frustrating stalemate at the interval.

On 60 minutes Bolton capitalised on an error in possession from Huddersfield captain Peter Clarke to break the deadlock.

Clarke was caught out by Marvin Sordell, who quickly found Eagles to smash home the opening goal from close range.

Huddersfield responded brightly as Scannell beat Danny Butterfield before driving just wide of the far post.

The visitors introduced Jermaine Beckford late on, but he could only flick wide in stoppage time as Bolton held on for a crucial victory.
