Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman has revealed that Martin Petrov is close to leaving the club.
The Bulgarian winger has spent the last few days in discussions with Spanish side Espanyol over a transfer to La Liga.
With those talks thought to have gone well, Freedman has conceded that Wanderers could do with getting the 33-year-old off their wage bill.
"I feel the best thing for the club is to bring in some new, young blood," he told BBC Radio Manchester. "That's where we are and I hope everybody understands that decision."
Petrov joined the Trotters in the summer of 2010 from Manchester City.
