The hosts took the lead with just eight minutes played as Lewandowski pounced inside the area to convert Mario Gotze's cross.
Despite Dortmund's superiority during the first half, Madrid grabbed what could be a vital away goal on 43 minutes when Cristiano Ronaldo tapped in after Mats Hummels had gifted the ball to Gonzalo Higuain.

However, the home side got themselves back in front four minutes into the second half as Lewandowski stayed onside to control Marco Reus's shot before firing into the net.
Lewandowski's hat-trick arrived five minutes later thanks to some slick control and an emphatic finish into the top corner.
The striker got his fourth goal of the night from the penalty spot with 23 minutes left to play following Xabi Alonso's foul on Reus.
